★★★ दरबार में बीरबल से जलने वालों की कमी नहीं थी।

बादशाह अकबर का साला तो कई बार बीरबल से मात खाने के बाद भी बाज न आता था। बेगम का भाई होने के कारण अक्सर बेगम की ओर से भी बादशाह को दबाव सहना पड़ता था।

ऐसे ही एक बार साले साहब स्वयं को बुद्धिमान बताते हुए दीवान पद की मांग करने लगे। बीरबल अभी दरबार में नहीं आया था।

अतः बादशाह अकबर ने साले साहब से कहा- 'मुझे आज सुबह महल के पीछे से कुत्ते के पिल्ले की आवाजें सुनाई दे रही थीं, शायद कुतिया ने बच्चे दिए हैं। देखकर आओ, फिर बताओ कि यह बात सही है या नहीं ?’

साले साहब चले गए, कुछ देर बाद लौटकर बोले- 'हुजूर आपने सही फरमाया, कुतिया ही ने बच्चे दिए हैं।'

'अच्छा कितने बच्चे हैं? बादशाह ने पूछा।

'हुजूर वह तो मैंने गिने नहीं।’

'गिनकर आओ।’

साले साहब गए और लौटकर बोले- 'हुजूर पांच बच्चे हैं?’

'कितने नर हैं…कितने मादा?' बादशाह ने फिर पूछा।

'वह तो नहीं देखा।’

'जाओ देखकर आओ।’

आदेश पाकर साले साहब फिर गए और लौटकर जवाब दिया- 'तीन नर, दो मादा हैं हुजूर।’

'नर पिल्ले किस रंग के हैं?’

'हुजूर वह देखकर अभी आता हूं।’

'रहने दो…बैठ जाओ।' बादशाह ने कहा।

ब‍ीरबल के दरबार में हाजिर होने पर बादशाह ने क्या किया...

साले साहब बैठ गए। कुछ देर बाद बीरबल दरबार में आया। तब बादशाह अकबर बोले- 'बीरबल, आज सुबह से महल के पीछे से पिल्लों की आवाजें आ रही हैं, शायद कुतिया ने बच्चे दिए हैं, जाओ देखकर आओ माजरा क्या है!’

'जी हुजूर।' बीरबल चला गया और कुछ देर बाद लौटकर बोला- 'हुजूर आपने सही फरमाया…कुतिया ने ही बच्चे दिए हैं।’

'कितने बच्चे हैं?’

'हुजूर पांच बच्चे हैं।’

'कितने नर हैं…। कितने मादा।’

'हुजूर, तीन नर हैं…दो मादा।’

'नर किस रंग के हैं?’

'दो काले हैं, एक बादामी है।’

'ठीक है बैठ जाओ।’

बादशाह अकबर ने अपने साले की ओर देखा, वह सिर झुकाए चुपचाप बैठा रहा। बादशाह ने उससे पूछा- 'क्यों तुम अब क्या कहते हो ?’

उससे कोई जवाब देते न बना।

Birbal's Qualification,

(बीरबल की योग्यता)

 ★★★ There was no shortage of people jealous of Birbal in the court.

 The brother-in-law of Emperor Akbar, even after defeating Birbal many times, could not stop.  Being the brother of the Begum, the emperor often had to bear pressure from Begum's side as well.

 One such time brother-in-law, calling himself intelligent, started demanding the position of Diwan.  Birbal had not yet come to the court.

 Therefore, Emperor Akbar said to his brother-in-law - 'I was hearing the voices of dog puppies from behind the palace this morning, maybe the bitch has given children.  Come see it, then tell whether this is true or not?'

 Brother-in-law left, returned after some time and said - 'Huzoor, you are right, the bitch has given the children.'

 'Well how many kids are there?  The king asked.

 'Huzoor, I have not counted that.'

 'Come count.'

 Brother-in-law went and returned and said- 'Hazoor five children?'

 'How many males are there... how many females?'  The king asked again.

 'He didn't see it.'

 'Go see and come.'

 After receiving the order, the brother-in-law went again and returned and replied - 'There are three males, two females, Huzoor.'

 'What color are the male puppies?'

 'Huzoor, seeing that, I am coming now.'

 'Let it be... sit down.'  The king said.

 What did the emperor do when he appeared in Birbal's court?

 Brother-in-law sat down.  After some time Birbal came to the court.  Then Emperor Akbar said - 'Birbal, since this morning the voices of puppies are coming from behind the palace, maybe the bitch has given children, go see what is the matter!'

 'Yes sir.'  Birbal went away and after sometime returned and said- 'Huzoor, you are right... the bitch has given the children.'

 'How many children?'

 'Huzoor has five children.'

 'How many males are there….  How many females?

 'Huzoor, there are three males... two females.'

 'What color are the males?'

 'Two are black, one is badami.'

 'Okay, sit down.'

 Emperor Akbar looked at his brother-in-law, he sat silently with his head bowed.  The king asked him- 'Why what do you say now?'

 Do not make any answer to him.

कुंए का पानी, (well water)

 

★★★ एक बार एक आदमी ने अपना कुंआ एक किसान को बेच दिया।

अगले दिन जब किसान ने कुंए से पानी खिंचना शुरू किया तो उस व्यक्ति ने किसान से पानी लेने के लिए मना किया। वह बोला, 'मैंने तुम्हें केवल कुंआ बेचा है ना कि कुंए का पानी।'

किसान बहुत दुखी हुआ और उसने बादशाह अकबर के दरबार में गुहार लगाई।
उसने दरबार में सबकुछ बताया और बादशाह अकबर से इंसाफ मांगा।

बादशाह अकबर ने यह समस्या बीरबल को हल करने के लिए दी।
बीरबल ने उस व्यक्ति को बुलाया जिसने कुंआ किसान को बेचा था।

बीरबल ने पूछा, 'तुम किसान को कुंए से पानी क्यों नहीं लेने देते? आखिर तुमने कुंआ किसान को बेचा है।'
उस व्यक्ति ने जवाब दिया, 'बीरबल, मैंने किसान को कुंआ बेचा है ना कि कुंए का पानी। किसान का पानी पर कोई अधिकार नहीं है।'

बीरबल मुस्कुराया और बोला, 'बहुत खूब, लेकिन देखो, क्योंकि तुमने कुंआ किसान को बेच दिया है, और तुम कहते हो कि पानी तुम्हारा है, तो तुम्हे अपना पानी किसान के कुंए में रखने का कोई अधिकार नहीं है।

अब या तो अपना पानी किसान के कुंए से निकाल लो या फिर किसान को किराया दो।'

वह आदमी समझ गया, कि बीरबल के सामने उसकी दाल नहीं गलने वाली और वह माफी मांग कर वहां से खिसक लिया।

well water, (कुंए का पानी)

 ★★★ Once a man sold his well to a farmer.

 The next day when the farmer started drawing water from the well, the man forbade him to take water from the farmer.  He said, 'I have sold you only the well and not the water of the well.'

 The farmer was very sad and appealed in the court of Emperor Akbar.

 He told everything in the court and asked for justice from Emperor Akbar.

 Emperor Akbar gave this problem to Birbal to solve.

 Birbal called the person who had sold the well to the farmer.

 Birbal asked, 'Why don't you let the farmer take water from the well?  After all you have sold the well to the farmer.

 The man replied, 'Birbal, I have sold the well to the farmer and not the water of the well.  The farmer has no right on water.

 Birbal smiled and said, 'Very well, but look, because you have sold the well to the farmer, and you say that the water is yours, then you have no right to keep your water in the farmer's well.

 Now either take your water out of the farmer's well or pay rent to the farmer.'

 The man understood that his pulse was not going to melt in front of Birbal and he apologized and slipped from there.
