राज्य में कौए कितने हैं?, (How many crows are there in the states)
★★★ एक दिन बादशाह अकबर अपने मंत्री बीरबल के साथ अपने महल के बाग में घूम रहे थे।
बादशाह अकबर बागों में उड़ते कौओं को देखकर कुछ सोचने लगे और बीरबल से पूछा, 'क्यों बीरबल, हमारे राज्य में कितने कौए होंगे?'
बीरबल ने कुछ देर अंगुलियों पर कुछ हिसाब लगाया और बोले, 'हुजूर, हमारे राज्य में कुल मिलाकर 95, 463 कौए हैं।'
तुम इतना विश्वास से कैसे कह सकते हो? हुजर, 'आप खुद गिन लीजिए, बीरबल बोले।'
बादशाह अकबर को कुछ इसी प्रकार के जवाब का अंदेशा था।
उन्होंने पूछा, 'बीरबल, यदि इससे कम हुए तो?'
तो इसका मतलब है कि कुछ कौए अपने रिश्तेदारों से मिलने दूसरे राज्यों में गए हैं और यदि ज्यादा हुए तो? तो इसका मतलब यह हैं हु़जूर कि कुछ कौए अपने रिश्तेदारों से मिलने हमारे राज्य में आए हैं - बीरबल ने मुस्कुरा कर जवाब दिया।
बादशाह अकबर एक बार फिर मुस्कुरा कर रह गए।

★★★ One day Emperor Akbar was walking with his minister Birbal in the garden of his palace.
Emperor Akbar started thinking about the crows flying in the gardens and asked Birbal, 'Why Birbal, how many crows will there be in our kingdom?'
Birbal did some calculations on his fingers for some time and said, 'Huzoor, there are total 95, 463 crows in our state.'
How can you say with such confidence? Hujar, 'You count yourself, Birbal said.'
Emperor Akbar expected a similar answer.
He asked, 'Birbal, if it is less than this?'
So it means that some crows have gone to other states to meet their relatives and if there are more? So this means that some crows have come to our kingdom to meet their relatives - Birbal replied with a smile.
Emperor Akbar was left smiling once again.

छोटा बांस, बड़ा बांस, (small bamboo big bamboo)
★★★ एक दिन बादशाह अकबर एवं बीरबल बाग में सैर कर रहे थे। बीरबल लतीफा सुना रहा था और बादशाह अकबर उसका मजा ले रहे थे।
तभी बादशाह अकबर को नीचे घास पर पड़ा बांस का एक टुकड़ा दिखाई दिया। उन्हें बीरबल की परीक्षा लेने की सूझी।
बीरबल को बांस का टुकड़ा दिखाते हुए वह बोले, 'क्या तुम इस बांस के टुकड़े को बिना काटे छोटा कर सकते हो?’
बीरबल लतीफा सुनाता-सुनाता रुक गया और बादशाह अकबर की आंखों में झांका।
बादशाह अकबर कुटिलता से मुस्कराए, बीरबल समझ गया कि बादशाह सलामत उससे मजाक करने के मूड में हैं।
अब जैसा बेसिर-पैर का सवाल था तो जवाब भी कुछ वैसा ही होना चाहिए था।
बीरबल ने इधर-उधर देखा, एक माली हाथ में लंबा बांस लेकर जा रहा था।
उसके पास जाकर बीरबल ने वह बांस अपने दाएं हाथ में ले लिया और बादशाह का दिया छोटा बांस का टुकड़ा बाएं हाथ में।
बीरबल बोला, 'हुजूर, अब देखें इस टुकड़े को, हो गया न बिना काटे ही छोटा।’
बड़े बांस के सामने वह टुकड़ा छोटा तो दिखना ही था।
निरुत्तर बादशाह अकबर मुस्करा उठे बीरबल की चतुराई देखकर।

★★★ One day Emperor Akbar and Birbal were walking in the garden. Birbal was reciting Latifa and Emperor Akbar was enjoying it.
Then Emperor Akbar saw a piece of bamboo lying on the grass below. He thought of testing Birbal.
Showing the piece of bamboo to Birbal, he said, 'Can you shorten this piece of bamboo without cutting it?'
Birbal Latifa stopped narrating and looked into the eyes of Emperor Akbar.
Emperor Akbar smiled crookedly, Birbal understood that Emperor Salamat was in a mood to joke with him.
Now as the question of baseless legs was there, the answer should have been the same.
Birbal looked around, a gardener was carrying a long bamboo in his hand.
Going to him, Birbal took that bamboo in his right hand and the small piece of bamboo given by the emperor in his left hand.
Birbal said, 'Huzoor, now look at this piece, it is not small without cutting it.'
In front of the big bamboo, that piece had to look small.
Respondent Emperor Akbar smiled seeing Birbal's cleverness.
